I like both urban and wilderness adventures. My favorite activities are day hikes, museum explorations, and trying new food. I enjoy being there for other people, but I tend to be very self reliant, as I am used to moving around the country on my own. I like most people I meet, because I've found we aren't all that different than one another. (Well once you take out the extremes of serial killers, people like Ghandi and MLK, and those who like the taste of spam.) And just about everyone has an interesting tale they are willing to share with the right coaxing.
Things I strive for and love to find in other people include: inquisitiveness, honesty (especially self honesty), kindness, and empathy towards others.
Something I apparently need to work on: Conciseness. In fact, it is past time to trim up this profile.
Time off work: seeking out new things to do and see. I am all for road trips and hidden cultural gems. A weekend out with good company, finding a new scenic vista and/or a new offbeat museum or restaurant would be a perfect one.
Movies: Garden state, Stranger than Fiction, Beasts of the Southern Wild, About a Boy, Dances with Wolves, Wonder Boys, Casablanca, To Kill a Mocking Bird, My Neighbor Totoro, Road to Perdition, Serenity, Almost Famous, Princess Bride, Hachi, Eternal Sunshine
Shows: Mad Men, Archer, Firefly, Big Bang Theory, Star Trek, Downton Abbey, Cheers, Futurama, Northern Exposure
Music: The Shins, The Decemberists, Badly Drawn Boy, Belle & Sebastian, John Oszajca, Wilco, Bob Dylan, Jenny Owen Youngs, Vampire Weekend, Joshua Radin, The Postal Service, Rilo Kiley, Slow Club.
Food: Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Cajun/Creole, anything that stands out on it's own terms and isn't bland works for me.
Other things I enjoy:
Trying new dark beers, drinking strong coffee, writing stories I may never finish (like millions of other people out there), watching football, and trying to figure out which movie in my Netflix queue to watch next. Also love dogs and cats of all colors and sizes. If you introduce me to your pet, prepare for me to socialize with him/her almost as much as I will socialize with you. Well, maybe not that bad.
I could probably actually do without all those things if I had to, but water, foodstuffs, dry land, etc makes for a rather uninspired list.
If you can show me some out of the way hikes and/or snowshoe treks.
If you are always up for making new friends. Even if the romantic spark isn't there, one is never too old to start new friendships.
