Originally from Texas. I'm adventurous and political. A bit of a smart ass. Often funny. Sometimes a smartypants. Sometimes serious. A little bit punk rock & a little bit country. Much fun.
I'm an environmental organizer. I've worked in different parts of the world on issues ranging from human rights to climate change to forest defense. It has given me a huge global family that I have really come to love and cherish.
I like being outside whether it's wandering around the city, trekking further out in the wilderness or spending time in a park. In my leisure time, I go running, hike, camp, travel, read, watch movies and write. (I realize that most everyone puts at least 6 out of 7 of these activities down on their profiles.)
I hate sitting around too much. I keep myself pretty busy with one thing or another. Or exploring wherever I happen to be that day. I am very independent, but also like people. But, alone time and slacking off is nice as well.
I travel. I backpacked through Southeast Asia for two and half months in 2011. Traveled in Australia, Europe and Latin America. I've been to most U.S. states. South Africa, Ireland and Turkey are still on my bucket list to visit. I love going places abroad and domestic.
I'm also usually pretty light and a bit silly (although my humor can be a bit dry, irreverent, sarcastic and ironical). I like to laugh, especially at myself, even better when others do it. I appreciate it. It keeps me honest.
One last thing. I'm looking for a LTR. But, I'm also somewhat recently out of one. For many years, I've been figuring out how best to be authentic, and to bring my deepest wisest self in relationship. I'm moving towards the next relationship, not with caution, just with presence of mind and an understanding of what I want and need.
books: mix of fiction and non-fiction. favorite authors include Barbara Kingsolver, Naomi Klein, Arundhati Roy, Noam Chomsky, Cormac McCarthy, John Steinbeck, Jack Kerouac, Howard Zinn. I just finished "A Brief History of Seven Killings." and then "Winter's Bone." Now I'm into "Parable of the Sower," which is frighteningly prophetic.
movies: on the serious tip: socio-political stuff, documentaries, John Sayles movies. on the fun tip: the Coen Brothers, Tarantino, Pirates of the Caribbean, High Fidelity, Dazed and Confused, assorted gangster movies and dark comedies, there's lots and lots here.
music: lots of various tastes including Billy Bragg, Wilco, Johnny Cash, Woody Guthrie, Townes Van Zandt, punk, Bob Dylan, Springsteen, old school country, Casey Neill and the Norway Rats, Manu Chao, Magnetic Fields. too much to name. something new every day. iTunes might be curse or blessing, haven't decided which. also iTunes has really turned me back onto Fresh Air and Democracy Now!
tv: whatever serial drama or dramedy happens to be interesting. All time favorites include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Wire and The Sopranos.
