My self-summary
Proud owner/best friend of the best-looking dog I've ever met.
What I’m doing with my life
I just got back to the country after a couple of years in Asia. I've spent most of my adult life teaching English in high-needs schools, but I'm taking a break from that at the moment. I'm currently trying to convince myself that Americans aren't stupid enough to elect Trump. Moreover, I would like to settle, definitively, on my favorite gluten free pizza while not becoming deathly ill from cross-contamination.
I’m really good at
Cooking, gluten free cooking at least, most sport-related pursuits, losing things, and giving rare books as gifts.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm not sure.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Recently: Perdido Street Station, Sunshine, The Blade Itself, The Mote in God's Eye, The Demolished Man, The Dispossessed, The Road, The Once and Future King, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Book of The New Sun, A Canticle for Leibowitz, and Pablo Nerdua. Right now: The Last Argument of Kings
The Royal Tenenbaums and The Big Lebowski and probably my two favorite movies.
TV: Mad Men, Deadwood, Arrested Development, The Wire, Game of Thrones, Narcos, and Peaky Blinders.
Music: Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Radiohead, Mumford and Sons, The National, Alt J, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Death Cab, Beirut, Discovery, old U2, classical, oldies, folksy stuff, and most things beside country, actually. I hate everything about country. Everything.
As for food, I'm allergic to gluten, so my favorite foods are, um, off the table, to use a cheap but effective pun.
The six things I could never do without
Newman, (my dog.) Plenty of sleep. Books and poetry. Hope. Gluten free food. Running water.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything that comes to mind...
On a typical Friday night I am
Staying in or going out
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like dorky things; I'm also dyslexic, and very poor at spelling. While I've always seemed to test and write well, I have reason to believe that I am, in all practicality, a massive idiot.
You should message me if
You're wicked smaat, generally curious, and at least somewhat committed to the idea of trying to improve general state of affairs we find ourselves in. I'm also a sucker for a girl who can expose me to profundity and/or beauty that I've managed to remain ignorant of.
