My self-summary
"Its a Raymond Chandler evening, and the pavements are all wet, and I'm hiding in the shadows, 'cause it hasn't happened yet."

A cynical romantic. A devious and mischievous vegetarian.
What I’m doing with my life
Moving, moving, moving. From Dallas, to Salt Lake City, and now to Raleigh. I can't seem to sit still, but I'm enjoying my ever-challenging career while reveling in my awesome little boy. I've been burning the candle at both ends a lot lately to keep up with my most recent career change, and am failing to fit in enough time read, write and create. It's a complicated balance that, right now, is just upending the scale. I'm not one to get complacent or to settle for what I have at that moment for very long. I seem to be always driving forward, and it think it keeps me young.
I’m really good at
Wrestling with this thing called life to get what I want out of it (it's pretty wily). Discovering new reasons to laugh with my son every day. Procrastinating away the time I have to accomplish one of the thousands of things I want to order to make progress on the other thousand.
The first things people usually notice about me
I tend to be talented in a wide range of disparate areas. Whether physical, mental, or philisophical, I'm always challenging myself to improve or achieve. My interests tend to follow this trend, being a serious mix of intellectual, athletic, social, and creative pursuits. I really appreciate good humor and wit in others. There are few things I enjoy more than playful, witty banter.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies - Miller's Crossing, Memento, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dangerous Beauty, Dangerous Liaisons, Heat, Man on Fire, Fight Club, Lost in Translation, Rounders, Firefly...anything good, though sometimes trash is fine.

Books - I'm a realist in life, but my reading and writing is generally an escape from the mundane. I'll read history and philosophy in spurts, with some classics mixed in from time to time. Poetry when the mood strikes me, and I am fairly accomplished with it in my writing (inspiration occurring with frustrating randomness). I'm an avid reader and a total literary snob. Here are a few examples. Even a small portion of what I've read over my life would be far too many to name...

Game of Thrones (Georg RR Martin), Kushiel's Dart (Jacquiline Carey), Troy (David Gemmel). Anything by Steven Brust or Steve Perry. Fitzgerald and Hemingway. Poe, primarily in his poetry. Jack White, William Gibson, Scott Lynch, Orson Scot Card, Judith Tarr.

Music - I'm all over the board with music. Generally hate country. Could probably not connect a band to a song if my life depended on it. That doesn't indicate that I'm not into music though. I'm all about what it does to/for me, I just don't so a lot of research. Here are some examples of my favorite bands/artists: Morphine, Smashing Pumpkins, Damien Rice, Patty Griffin, Bennie Benassi, Daft Punk, Shiny Toy Guns, Tool, Blue October, Patty Griffin.

Food: Strictly vegetarian, but not snobby about it. Like religion, to me this is a personal choice that has nothing to do with anyone else. I mix with the carnivores just fine.
Six things I could never do without
My son. Not much else to say here. He's awesome.

My ambition. Harder, better, faster, stronger...

Poetry and prose...the pieces I've written, the ideas I'll never quite get to, and those fleeting moment of inspiration when it all flows easily.

A healthy mind, body, and spirit...or the desire to make them so.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything. Seriously, my mind just about never stops going, and caffeine seriously rocks out my creative flow. Repeatedly, I find myself thinking about how to be a better Father to my son, how to angle up that next notch in my career, how long its going to be before I get around to writing that book, why the hell I'm still up at 2:30 am (again)...
On a typical Friday night I am
Normally, I'm taking care of my son. When I have the freedom, I'm generally trying to get out to see friends, writing, reading, or working.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I think Myspace was awesome and Facebook sucks.

Even in Raleigh, this is still true.
You should message me if
...well, let me derail this for a second, just to put a comment on the section above. I'm not here looking for a mother for my son. I have the parent thing covered. I'm looking for something fulfilling outside of that. Something for which a smile might linger....

...ok, so back to the title...

You enjoy intelligent conversation.
You love to laugh.
You are physically active.
Sarcasm doesn't consistently go over your head.
You aren't going to try and recruit me to your religion, politics, or all seriousness, just have an open mind.
