My self-summary
I'm intelligent and kind. I consider myself a realist, and generally think people are shortsighted who assume that to be a nice way of saying pessimist. I'm looking for something more than I've been able to find thus far in interpersonal relationships. I'm not interested in being in a relationship as an end unto itself. I like helping people, but I'm looking for a girl who can generally take care of herself. I think that one should already be complete as an individual, and that a relationship should enhance two wholes. I enjoy meeting new people, and hope one day to find a woman with whom I can share a deeply significant relationship with, although most of my relationships tend to remain platonic.
I enjoy various outdoor activities, as well as movies, the occasional museum trip, amusement parks, whatever. I'm pretty easy going when it comes to activities, and generally try to take advantage of opportunities for new adventures when they're presented.
I like to travel occasionally, and have been many places throughout the US, although I've not been outside the United States extensively.
I keep physically fit and healthy, although I'm not obsessed with either notion.
I have an appreciation for good food. I cook on occasion, although I'm more inclined to cook for others than just for myself.
I'm always interested in learning, getting to know good people, and hearing why people think/believe the things that they do, as I find that such interaction helps me somewhat to define why I think/believe the things that I do.
I believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I think people should be socially and environmentally responsible. I appreciate arts, and good causes, but don't generally favor compulsory means to support them.
As for religion, I'm Mormon (Christian). Ultimately, I'm looking to find someone who shares the same values and ideals that I have, with regard to ethics and morality. I respect others' rights to maintain their own beliefs, and have no interest in compelling anyone to think as I do, although I do find theoretical discussion stimulating from time to time. For the most part I find that a choice of religion or spirituality is not one based on physical evidences and deduction, so I'm not interested in discussions about proving right and wrong with regard to those things. That said, I do think that intellect should be applied to all aspects of life as much as is possible. Rest assured, I've come to my religious beliefs after considerable thought and spiritual introspection.

I am charitable, thoughtful, and adventuresome
What I’m doing with my life
I've lived in Los Angeles since January of 2000, when I moved from Ohio to take a job here, and stayed mostly because of the weather. I work as a Systems Engineer (computers; hardware, software, networking, etc.), and enjoy my job overall. I've worked previously doing construction, remodeling, a bit of auto work, etc., and still enjoy the chance now and then to work with my hands and help friends with such projects here and there.
I’m really good at
fixing stuff. I've always liked to see how things work, take things apart and fix them. I enjoy a challenge, and I'm always happy to learn about something new.
Some of my friends say I'm good at karaoke, and while I'm not sure if that qualifies for the 'really good at' category, it is something I enjoy now and then.
The first things people usually notice about me
What people notice about me likely varies with the context of the situation. I think I tend to be friendly and helpful for the most part. I try to always apply common sense to life, as a rule, although I'm not above goofing off occasionally.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
(a) 'The Hitchhiker's Trilogy', 'Enders Game', 'Dune', ... I don't seem to have the time to read as much as I used to. I tend to be drawn toward the science fiction, comedy, adventure, and fantasy, genres, although I read others as well.
(b) 'Grosse Pointe Blank', 'Batman Begins', 'Groundhog Day', 'Tombstone', 'Pirates of the Caribbean', 'King Arthur', 'Iron Man' ...there's lots more. I like action, comedy (especially the smart and/or witty variety), I even enjoy the occasional drama/romance.
(c) Pop, Country, Oldies, Classical, 80's. I can appreciate most types. I’m definitely not into rap, or anything with caustic and intentionally offensive lyrics just for the sake of it.
(d) American (Steak, BBQ Pork Ribs, BBQ Chicken), Italian, Mexican, Indian, Thai... I like to cook pasta, pancakes & other breakfast foods, ham, pumpkin pie, anything on the grill.
Six things I could never do without
Not that I couldn't survive, but I tend to be very tied to my:
Notebook Computer
Cell Phone
Leatherman (the original Super Tool)
Swiss Army Knife (Huntsman Plus)

And I wouldn't really want to be without true Friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
friends, family, computers (largely on account of my job), the state of the world, what my dream last night was all about, space, new gadgets, spirituality, outdoor activities, cooking, restaurants, girls, movies, travel, how things work, devices that might save lives, medicine, exersise...
On a typical Friday night I am
Working, or at some social gathering with friends. Sometimes, if there's nothing going on, I'm just as content to unwind with a movie or TV show.
You should message me if
you feel so inclined.
