My self-summary
I'm geeky, an internet free speech activist, a science fiction fan, and polyamorous. Passionate, political, but not judgmental or obsessive about it, and I try to be polite to everyone who deserves it. Very open-minded and socially progressive about most things, but compassion is essential. I'm a good talker, but a better writer.
Like William Gibson, one of my main problems is that I am increasingly interested in everything.
What I’m doing with my life
A little university teaching, a little computer consulting, a little travelling the world doing internet policy stuff. Studying for a PhD.
I’m really good at
talking about things I love, organising events, dancing the night away, talking in front of crowds, making a convincing argument, wrangling technology, learning new things, caring about my friends too much, procrastinating on the internet.
The first things people usually notice about me
Long hair and beardy. Often talks a lot.
Sometimes I dress very well, sometimes I dress very down, sometimes I dress ridiculously. So, depends on what day you get me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like a really wide range of music. A lot of electronica, a lot of indie, some avant garde, little bits of country, classical and post-rock. Favourite bands include The Fall, The Triffids, LCD Soundsystem, Underworld, Nick Cave.

Favourite movies include anything by the Coen Brothers, L.A. Confidential, a lot of Hong Kong cinema.

Favourite authors include Tim Powers, Gene Wolfe, Iain (M) Banks, Jonathon Carroll, Bruce Sterling, William Gibson, Michael Chabon, Evelyn Waugh, John Le Carré, Alastair Reynolds, Kurt Vonnegut, James Ellroy. I also read a fair bit of non-fiction - regular subjects include Internet politics, Australian politics, history, crime, and various occult subjects - but my interests are very wide.

I eat a wide range of food, but particularly like Chinese and French food. I can do fine dining, or I can cheap takeaway, and I eat most things.
The six things I could never do without
iphone or ipad (or both)
something to read in case I get bored
iced coffee in the morning (or tea or coffee at a pinch)
an internet connection
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Freedom and the internet.
The future.
Politics. Music.
On a typical Friday night I am
spending time with friends, if not at a party then a meal out or a few drinks.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've danced naked around the embers at Burning Man.

You like conversation, especially about geeky or artsy or political or weird stuff. You are relatively open minded.
