My self-summary
I see myself as someone with a large spirit - a spirit of adventure, a love of life, of heart and of human connection, and a love of the natural world and the world of thought. I enjoy people, intelligent conversation, music, festivals, good books, movies and, visual art. I value family, though unfortunately none of mine have so far had the good sense to émigrate westward. At this time in my life, I'm open to new adventures and new friendships.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm watching lots of sunsets and noticing how good that feels, with or without a dog or a human friend by my side. I'm a slow but voracious reader. I generally spend a month or two in Mexico and/or New England and I look forward to more traveling. I love to go out and hear live music so I volunteer my time at a couple of venues. I stare at the clouds and out at the ocean and think or not-think. I'm retired and enjoying it.
I’m really good at
I'm very playful and enjoy relaxing. I'm told that one strength is my ability to emotionally connect to others. I also really enjoy my own company... well, usually. I'm financially responsible, very intelligent, emotionally mature... again, usually.... and I have a generally upbeat nature (though sometimes cranky, sometimes glum, I admit it). Laughter always comes easy to me, especially at myself, and I enjoy making others laugh.
The first things people usually notice about me
People comment that I have a friendly open face. I often get big smiles from strangers on the street or at the beach or market.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love good indie and foreign movies and even the occasional big stupid Hollywood flick. I enjoy live music of many styles, especially acoustic music. I'm a frequent reader with eclectic tastes.... classics, contemporary fiction, memoirs, the New Yorker, the Sunday funnies... generally anything that appeals to me... just started Louise Erdrich's latest, and I recently finished two terrific novels, Beautiful Ruins, and All the Light We Cannot See. I love anything by David Sedaris, Tom McGuane, Jonathon Franzen... and many, many others. In theory, I'm committed to healthful eating, whole and fresh foods in moderate portions, but I easily succumb to the lure of tacos, pizza, or prime rib.
Six things I could never do without
Food, water, air, and reading glasses.
Good friends - new and old.
Intimate connection.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
... Just the usual.... life's wonders and mysteries and certainties, the beauty and vulnerability of our planet, love, and of course food.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Under the right circumstances, nothing is sacred… Ask me.
You should message me if
You're interested in making a new friend, and open to exploring where that may lead.
