My self-summary
In His Own Words

Well-educated, well-read, physical, active. An eternal student. (Be warned: I am an intellectual. I am geek. That doesn't mean I spend my days/nights caught in front of a computer screen or behind a book. I prefer to take my geekiness to the gym, the beach and on long walks.)

I love to laugh loud, talk deep. I'm passionate about everything I do--writing, teaching in the classroom, singing, cooking, stretching my limits in the gym, reading, experiencing the cultural wealth that surrounds me in New York.

Service is very important to me. I am proud of the two plus years I spent as Peace Corps Volunteer. I am kind of a bleeding heart liberal.

I have a very full life, but I wish that I could make a long-term romantic relationship work for me. It feels like the Final Frontier.

I'm looking for someone who is passionate about his life and open to sharing his passions. Not surprisingly, complacency is one of my biggest turn-offs. Even though my own interests are very specific, I don't really need to have someone who shares those same intellectual or artistic or creative pursuits. I'd much rather find a man who has his own.

There are few things I enjoy more than a man teaching me about something he knows and loves.
What I’m doing with my life
I just finished my second Master's Degree, this just for the hell of it. Now I'm trying to finish the book I started whilst getting the Master's degree.
Constantly in the process of improving the quality of my life and my relationships with friends and family.
Constantly finding new ways to make my job creative and challenging.
Learning to spend less time thinking I need to be constantly doing something.
I’m really good at
Baking bread
Making messes in the kitchen whilst doing the above
Talking on the phone
Drinking tea
Helping friends out
Falling down and breaking things
Walking (provided that I do not do the above)
The first things people usually notice about me
My goofy crooked smile.
My arms (one acquaintance called me the Dolly Parton of triceps)
My lips.
My resonant voice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I can't really begin to list them all. I love Literature more than almost any other thing.
My all time favorite novels are:
Master and Margarita
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter
Great Expectations
Another Country
The Brothers Karamazov
Toni Morrison's Jazz

Second only to Literature in my life is music. I have very wide tastes from 20th Century Classical Music, to Ancient Music, from folk and singer/songwriters, to BritPop. Put a chick behind a guitar and I'm likely to love her. I'm easy that way.

I want to see more live dance, classical music and opera, unfortunately I find it too expensive.

Gave up cable tv a few years ago and have not regretted it.
That said I still Hulu:
Mad Men
Modern Family
Doctor Who
That so AWFUL it's brilliant "Spartacus" series on Starz. Put a man in a loincloth and I'll watch it.

Gave up going to many movies a couple of years ago--I prefer to see live people. I live in New York, why spend my time watching what I could see if I were still back in Wyoming?

I don't really like most Broadway shows, however. I prefer the off-off Broadway, small and experimental theatre; I love dance and almost anything that the Brooklyn Academy of Music puts on a stage. Taylor Mac. Joe's Pub. The Public Theater.

Recent favorites:
Taylor Mac's "March across America" & "Lily's Revenge"
Angels in America
Six things I could never do without
Pencil and Paper. (Is that two?)
Physical and mental exercise.
Being outside.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I am currently writing.
The weather.
How long it's been.
On a typical Friday night I am
Taking up valuable tablespace at a restaurant talking too long with friends over dinner.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Spirituality is central to me, rather than discuss it or wear it on my sleeve, I try to live it. Increasingly I find ways to be delighted with life and experience.

Also, I judge those who think that "it wouldn't be private if I write it here" is an appropriate answer. Those people make me want to teach them a class in critical reading. "The most private thing you're willing to admit" does not mean that you have to share something everyone would consider private. I rant.
You should message me if
If you need someone who can sing back-up harmony. If you love to clean up a messy cook. If you possess the wicked balance of culture and grit. If you love big hugs and big lips.
