My self-summary
I'm a Chicago boy who's grown solid roots after nearly twenty years in the Bay Area. I still have some midwestern sensibility and my accent comes out at times, especially if I have to say "socks" or "pants".

I've lived in Boston, New York and been around the world. I have a close family and a very close group of friends who are very important to me, despite their moral bankruptcy and deep character flaws. During the days, I teach high school and coach sports in the afternoon. Recently I discovered open water swimming and swim in the bay as much as I can. I have a car, but prefer to use my bike to get around town. Like most guys, I like unicorns, bunny rabbits, and walks on the beach.

I enjoy reading, dancing, being outside, getting exercise and fresh air(preferably at the same time), writing, people watching, making weird and sometimes off-color jokes, reading the newspaper(mostly for the crossword and sudoku), watching movies, and a million other things which get in the way of doing my laundry and doing my dishes. I'm kidding. My clothes are always clean and my kitchen is usually, mostly clean.

I drove a school bus in Boston, got blessed by Mother Theresa, ate a sea slug in Barcelona, and saw Tony Danza eating pasta in New York.

I also have an 11 year old son who lives with me half of the time. He is of course wonderful and a big part of my life. I get along very well with his mother and have no drama.

I've got a good life and am looking for someone to share it with. I enjoy cooking, dancing, and live music of all kinds. I'm up for almost anything. Except heights. Those scare me.
What I’m doing with my life
teaching during the day, coaching soccer and basketball, spending time with my son, going out with friends, attacking my reading list, getting outside, swimming in the bay, and finding time to do my laundry.
I’m really good at
Winging it.
Asking for help with the crossword.
Cooking a great meal with no plan.
Getting after it.
The first things people usually notice about me
My wit. My charm. My good looks.

Either that or my boobs.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
This section seems weird. I get along great with people who have absolutley horrible(in my humble opinon) taste in movies, books, television, and food. That being said, here is a definitive list of things that I like that somehow tell you about who I am. If you agree with me any of these, it probably means that we should make out.

Favorite writers: Elmore Leonard, Charles Bukowski, Roddy Doyle, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Edward P. Jones, Cormac McCarthy, David Foster Wallace. Favorite book of all time was Catch 22, until I recently reread it. Now I'm not so sure.

Movies: I think "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is the best movie of all time. Casablanca is a close second I have a soft spot for stupid comedies. Big fan of the Marx Brothers. "Talladega Nights" and "Anchorman" make me laugh just thinking about them. "The Lives of Others" and "Waking the Dead" are two recent rentals that I loved.

Music: Anything that either makes me dance or breaks my heart. Elliot Smith, Soundgarden, Wilco, Marvin Gaye, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Social Distortion, John Doe, Steve Wonder, old r&b. Lately, I've been listening to music almost exclusively from the 70's. So yeah, I'm pretty hip. I went to college in the 90's, I so I have a serious soft spot for grunge.

Food: Yes please.

And I do watch t.v. and am a bit of a t.v. snob. Liz Lemon, Jesse Pinkman, Peggy Olson, and Tyrion Lannister are among my heroes.
Six things I could never do without
My bike. A walk. A swim. A good taco. A dependable pair of sneakers. Inappropriate laughter.

Note: My bike broke yesterday and I'm currently still breathing, so take that into consideration.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to fix up the planet. How to fix up my apartment. What's Bill Murray doing and does he need someone to hang out with.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either grabbing drinks with friends or collapsed on my couch watching a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm sure your cat is great, but he makes me itchy.
You should message me if
If you're the type to smile at people in the supermarket. You like bookstores and record stores. Taking a walk with no particular destination sounds like a good idea.
