Vitæ Summa Brevis Spem nos Vetet Incohare Longam
Dowson, Ernest (1867 - 1900)
They are not long, the weeping and the laughter,
Love and desire and hate;
I think they have no portion in us after
We pass the gate.
They are not long, the days of wine and roses:
Out of a misty dream
Our path emerges for a while, then closes
Within a dream.
Oh! the embaressment! filled the car with petrol last night - but
when I went to pay, found I'd left my purse with all my cards at home! Have to call in today at the petrol station with cash - or risk the police being informed! yikes!
l-o-v-e-l-y music! & gorgeous scenery!
George Monbiot - what a great article!
See above for a moving speech by Gerald Kaufman given in 2009 - yet tragically nothing has changed. Still so true today.
11.07.14 My choir performed at an old people's home summer fair today - wheee!!! what whizzy fun that was! And I think they enjoyed it too.....
Penelope Trunk I love you!
Ramit Sethi rocks!
Wheeee! all these people here who rate me highly! Thanks! I'm flattered! The only problem is - I don't know who the hell you are! Chaps - give up browsing anonymously - then (maybe) I'll return the favour.... I mean - if the point here is trying to meet someone, what's the point if I don't know who you are?
This is brill! If this doesn't bring a smile to your cheek - then nothing will!
Oh! Update - had a great time at a life-drawing class recently - really absorbing - such intense concentration required - almost a meditative experience! (But the organiser only booked the room for 6 weeks, so now we're waiting for her to find a new venue....)
I live in Leeds and I like to visit London - but I couldn't put Leeds AND London as my location.
I am a tall (just under 5'8") professional initially fairly shy/reserved woman hoping to share friendship, mutual admiration and - .....(all the rest). My likes include spicy food, fresh air and walking (there's so many fantastic places to walk in Yorkshire...- which is where I live), reading, lively conversation and companionable silences, world music and classical music,(which sometimes includes me playing the piano badly) , cinema and opera. I'm an avid radio 4 listener and increasingly radio 3 as well, and sometimes radio 2. My dislikes include overheated, overcrowded and noisy places, dogs. I don't smoke and I don't drink much.
I'm full of imperfections and foibles - I expect you are too!
I am not really interested in lengthy email exchanges - let's meet or let's not meet - you can't get to know someone without meeting face-to-face.
I am 5' 8, intelligent, and pensive
New recommendations: Films to see: 1)Taking liberties - how civil liberties have suffered under Tony Blair 2)Other people's lives - East Germany pre 1989.
It's scary to see how 1) could lead to 2)
Update Sept 09 - I'm rereading The Time Traveller's Wife. The time travel is very ingenious and surprisingly believable, combined with a heartrendingly romantic story as well.
A favourite book A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewicka
Current FAVE FILM OF ALL TIME!!!! Werner Herzog - Encounters at the End of the World.
(Previously - I wrote "Isn't it about time I got reading glasses.... ")
but DON'T message me if your message is the same that you send to thousands of others - I can tell - and I'll just block you.
I'm hoping to find someone who is interested in me and that I find interesting, who enjoys both serious conversations and lighthearted ones - and who finds me attractive and that I find attractive! A relationship to me means mutual enjoyment and mutual caring.
Someone in whose arms I feel at home.......but one step at a time, eh!
Someone who is NOT looking for perfection.
Someone who like me believes in a relationship of equals.
I would like to meet someone close to my age - in either direction. That means that you would have to be EXCEPTIONALLY interesting for me to want to meet you if you are as much as 20 years younger than me, for example!
Chaps- please include a photo!
Yes my aim is to find a relationship - but new friends would be welcome too.
As this sentence seems to have caused confusion judging by some emails I have received, I need to explain that a) even for me to want to be friends with you, I need to have SOMETHING in common with you! and b) I am NOT looking for a penfriend, so if you are not interested in meeting face-to-face sooner rather than later, then please look elsewhere. Lengthy exchanges of emails are not for me.
(or do I mean exchanges of lengthy emails?????)
