My self-summary
Renaissance man? Native of NYC where I attended H.S. of Music and Art and learned I was better suited for engineering than art. Retired from research engineer/manager position with USDOT. BSCE CCNY; MSCE Purdue; ABD GWU. Still vigorous (skiing, gym), wry sense of humor. Active in American Institute of Wine and Food (formerly on Board of Directors), volunteer work (Fairfax County Election Officer, middle school science classes); scenic artist for 9 seasons of Hexagon amateur variety show. Interests include painting/sculpture, gardening, classical music, theater (acting or attending), museums, gourmet cooking, fine dining, ethnic food and Belgian ale. Like to try new foods and travel to new places. Do not like long walks on the beach. Jewish but non-practicing. Father of two with two young grandchildren.
I’m really good at
A lot of things.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've never asked anyone.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I am an avid skiier (western US/Europe); also like to travel and have gone on a number of (non-ski) trips with my ski club: Istanbul, Greece, Adriatic cruise/bus tour of Italy; England, Spain, Scotland/Ireland.

Recent books read: "The Pillars of the Earth", "Unearthing the Bible", "Double Cross", The Land of Painted Caves", A Man Called Intrepid"; I just finished "Dracula" (not a book I would have selected but it came free on my Nook e-reader).

I don't go to movies much except with my granddaughter. Favorite movies: "One, Two, Three" (a James Cagney comedy that no one has ever heard of); Despicable Me 2 (saw it twice: once with granddaughter, again with sister -- loved it both times).

TV: mostly WETA mysteries and NOVA; anything on science or history; am not a fan of serials (e.g. Downton Abbey) but Doc Martin was an exception.

Other than Bluegrass and Celtic I'm strictly classical (Dvorak, Mahler, Bruckner, Wagner's Ring Cycle, ...); I've got several hundred works on my iPod.

Food: Chocolate ice cream with raspberry syrup is as close to heaven as I'm likely to get. Can't abide: lima beans, cashews, chili peppers and anything overcooked. Otherwise am an omnivore. Love trying new things (I'll try anything once).

I am a beer connoisseur (i.e. snob), specializing in Belgian ales, and am the resident beer expert for my food and wine organization, having coordinated several beer dinners.
