My self-summary
I am kind of a nerd. I like guys who are funny and am pretty independent so frankly don't need a whole lot of maintenance. I like to read and go to the theatre. I like to travel and hope to do more soon. I cook really delicious chocolate chip cookies and am a bleeding heart who believes in a society powered by hugs. Im pretty chatty and love the occasional dirty joke. I suppose i am 1 part gloomy ex goth 1 part jolly hockey sticks. I love vintage shops and markets and second hand book shops. Like lenny in the novel Super Sad true Love story, i will always be a fan of the paper book over the Ipad.
What I’m doing with my life
Im a social worker who works in counselling and crisis management.
I’m really good at
Talking. Listening. My work requires me to do a lot of both.
Having fun. I have always had a kind of class clown mentality and see life as pretty absurd. So I love to laugh.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am a really good listener. I tend to have a droll sense of humor.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Confereracy of dunces. Funniest book ever! I also like David Sedaris for humor.
Anything by Edgar Allen Poe. F Scott Fitzgerald. I think that at heart we are all reaching across the water toward the green light. I most recently have been reading Gary Sheigtengardt and have developed a kind of literary crush on him. But I tend to devour books. So I will pick up literally anything and give it a go.
Cheezy comedies of any kind. The more lowbrow the better. I have yet to see a Will Ferrell film that i havent laughed in. I also like off the wall humor Like Wes Anderson and of course Woody Allen.
I like charming French films like Amelie and other arthouse films like Betty Blue.
I grew up watching british comedies like Black adder, the young ones and the goodies. I miss those days of telly. But my TV heart will always belong to Homer J Simpson.
All kinds of music. I know that this is a cliched answer but it is true. Really. In terms of Rock I like bands like The Black Keys and The heavy. I grew up with Brit Pop, grunge and foul mouthed Gangsta rap. If anything the ridiculousness of a middle class white girl from a town like Adelaide listening to F**K the police really appeals to my sense of irony more now than ever before and I still get a guilty pleasure kick out this genre.
I like Jazz as well and sometimes think that Peggy lee's Is that all there is kind of sums up life for me.
I am not a pinickity eater. I try to eat healthily overall but tend to be adventurous. I don't mind a bit of spice. I love the china town section of Adelide and tend to really get into the hole in the wall Asian restaurants there.
Six things I could never do without
Ok so everyone writes the gag about oxygen etc. So I will just talk about stuff that I really love. I would say fun. Because the whole reason for living is to enjoy ourselves. Life is really just an endless source of mirth. My closest friends, they sustain me. I also love my work. As i went back to uni at 33 and retrained I have to admit that I feel like I've got less time to fulfill my dreams here so i'm working as hard as I can.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Sadly my work. Trying to achieve work life balance.
On a typical Friday night I am
Having dinner or a drink with friends, seeing a play or film. Eating tuna straight from a tin while standing over the sink in my ugliest pjs with the beastie boys blaring in the background.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Well if it is private Im not going to splash it all over the net now am I????
