My self-summary
I'm from Minnesota. I came here in '08 to teach and teaching changed my life.

Other than that, I run, I walk, I watch (and re-watch), I brunch, and I attempt to read and write, but mostly I'm checking my phone's lock screen for edification/salvation.

I'm looking for some authenticity. I'm interested in people who have the confidence to take a genuine interest in something and follow that interest to the nerdy/dorky extreme.
What I’m doing with my life
I teach math and I spend most of my time thinking about it (math, adolescence, inequality, fatalism, etc).

I run around Queens. There are cemeteries everywhere.

Coming off of a serious Seamless addiction, I'm trying to make food for myself. Those fast cooking hands on Youtube are my guide. I'm trying to stay grain free (paleo) because it keeps me relatively good looking. The things you can do with squash, zucchini, and cauliflower are surprisingly delicious.

I'm trying to chill; it's not my native setting.
I’m really good at
belting top 40 hits at/with my students.

hoarding writing utensils. If I see a pencil on the floor it's going in my pocket. Unless it isn't sharpened. Then it's staying right where it is 'cause nobody's got time for all that.

saving shards of Dial soap and mashing them together into a gorgeous hand soap bar/ball.

missing the Amazon return deadline. I somehow ended up with like fifty roles of paper towels.

wearing Crocs. I own three pairs, and yes, one of them is the divisive, iconic sandal/shoe hybrid. I love them.

biking to places, even when the temperature is prohibitive and I get sweatier than is socially acceptable.

using all five of my senses. I feel like people need to get on board with smelling and touching stuff.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm a six five bald man.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A Team of Rivals, 1984, The Foundation trilogy, Harry Potter, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Journey Through Genius, The Selfish Gene, The Body Keeps the Score

Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Moonstruck, Goodfellas, This is Spinal Tap, Aladdin, Adaptation, Wayne's World, Back to the Future, No Country for Old Men, The Godfather Epic

The Wire, The West Wing, Arrested Development, The Larry Sanders Show, Fargo, Louie, 30 Rock, Friends, Breaking Bad, Veep, True Detective Season One, Silicon Valley, Antiques Roadshow, The Bachelor(ette), The Great British Baking Show, anything about how non-human creatures perform amazing feats, anything about astronomy

Music is life; music lists are the worst. Prince is my gender and music hero. Here are some songs that are good:

"Show Me Love" Robyn
"Don't Let Go" En Vogue
"Erotic City" Prince
"Dance Hall Days" Wang Chung
"Astral Weeks" Van Morrison
"Iceblink Luck" Cocteau Twins
"Hysteria" Def Leppard
"Moments" Tove Lo
"She Sells Sanctuary" The Cult
"Get a Job" The Silhouettes
"Twisted (Sexual Healing Remix)" Keith Sweat
"Kiss Them for Me" Siouxsie and the Banshees
"Hypnotize" The Notorious B.I.G.

I listen to one or two podcasts every morning, so here are some good ones: Radiolab, 99% Invisible, Planet Money, Radio Diaries, More Perfect, Reply All, Revisionist History, Criminal, etc.

I've finished an issue of The Economist. I skipped most of the letters to the editor, but it still counts.

If it happened in the 90s I'm probably into it. Especially if it's hip-hop, video games, pop music, pizza Lunchables or the Always Coca-Cola jingle.
Six things I could never do without
People I trust
Something to read
A device for writing
Trail mix
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what I'm going to eat next, worst-case scenarios, whether or not I should have more coffee, the future where everyone knows what everyone else is thinking and what a relief that will be probably.
On a typical Friday night I am
staying out until my friends aren't looking. Then I make a break for it.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've ordered Dominos for dinner two nights in a row. I'm pretty sure I only did this once but I can't/won't say for sure.

Until way too recently I thought John Fogerty was saying "Yay me." He's not.

Dancing terrifies me. I love it, but my skills are...not great.

I can't stop editing this thing.
You should message me if
you also spend most of your time thinking about what you're about to eat. If you're chill that would be great.
