My self-summary
So here we are on OkCupid. Welcome to my profile. What a strange and interesting post-modern way to meet. So in the interest of succinctness, I've decided to offer a list of words and phrases that describe me. I'll probably add to it as I think of things. After that are my more long-winded descriptions. So, without further ado, I am:

atheist, vegan, liberal, progressive, skeptic, low-maintenance, even-keeled, night owl, introverted, mellow, patient, considerate, good humored, good-natured, non-materialistic, musically inclined.

I'm a down-to-Earth musician/sound engineer, and I currently play lead guitar in a Country/Rock band, and I also write my own songs (but not for that band). I've been vegan for about sixteen years and prefer to date someone who is at least vegetarian, but I'm flexible about it - as long as you are too. (That being said, I admit that the first thing I usually look at on someone's profile is what they put for "Diet.") I like almost every kind of music you can think of, from Rock, Funk and Soul to Jazz and Classical to Reggae and Bluegrass. I started doing Yoga a few years ago and really like it. I'm sure anyone who has practiced Yoga knows the calming mind-body connection it can foster, which has a wonderful way of working itself into your daily life. Need I say more?

I also love to spend countless hours writing descriptions of myself - when I'm not taking long walks on the beach, of course.

On the list of "My Details" to the right of this paragraph, next to "Religion" I wanted to write "No, thank you", but it wouldn't let me.

Also, I don't drink or do the 420 anymore, but it's totally fine with me if you do.

I like a woman who is smart, funny, and can appreciate my sense of humor - although if you laugh at my jokes you should realize that'll only encourage me. ;)
What I’m doing with my life
Hiding from the Pleiadians.

Okay, but seriously, I'm making music for people that enjoy it and helping other people to do the same.

I'm doing my best to be a better person everyday, but taking life with a grain of salt (and sometimes some garlic or ginger too).

Update (April, 2016): I've also recently become a driving instructor, so now I'm helping to make the roads safer!
I’m really good at
Playing the guitar, parallel parking, teaching people how to parallel park, solving puzzles, making people laugh, remembering where I put my keys, cooking tasty vegan food (I love to make a nice meal for two), not taking life too seriously, keeping a cool head when the world is freaking out around me, writing lists.

A friend tells me I should say that I'm really good at being a fun date, but I don't know if I can condone that level of shameless self-promotion.
The first things people usually notice about me
My inner beauty.

Actually, I must say that I think this is a bit of a silly question to answer about oneself. Meet me in person, and you can see what you notice first.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Anything by Herman Hesse (esp. "Narcissus and Goldmund"); Anything by Kurt Vonnegut (esp. "Cat's Cradle"), Anything by Edgar Allan Poe; Sci-Fi - esp. Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury and Robert Heinlein
And for non-fiction - Richard Dawkins, Stephen J. Gould and Carl Sagan are some of my favorites. Oh, and Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" too.

Movies: Monty Python's Life of Brian; 2001: A Space Odyssey; Network; All three Lord of the Rings movies; Brazil; Contact; Fight Club; Spider Man ("With great power comes great responsibility."); any Star Wars movie (yeah, even the new ones); Avatar - to name a few. I'm always down for checking out something new or that I've never heard of, you know, something my date wants to see.

Music: Jazz - Miles Davis; John Coltrane; Medeski, Martin and Wood; John Scofield; Herbie Hancock; Django Reinhardt; Grant Green; John McLaughlin; Bill Frissel; Dave Brubeck; Thelonious Monk; Charles Mingus; Weather Report; Duke Ellington
Rock - Led Zeppellin; Pink Floyd; Black Sabbath; Rush; Frank Zappa; Beatles; Grateful Dead; Jerry Garcia; Yes; Jethro Tull; Bob Dylan; Simon and Garfunkel; Santana; Sublime; Eric Clapton; The Who
Reggae - Bob Marley; Peter Tosh; Toots and the Maytals; Jimmy Cliff; Skatalites; Black Uhuru, Is anyone actually reading this section?
Country/Bluegrass - Johnny Cash; Patsy Cline; Flatt and Scruggs; Willie Nelson; Bill Monroe; Chet Atkins; Doc Watson
Classical - Mozart; Bach; Vivaldi; Brahams; Beethoven; Dvorak; Lizst; Haydn; Handel; Paganini; Chopin; Debussy
Funk/Soul - Funkadelic; Parliament; Earth, Wind & Fire; Stevie Wonder; James Brown; Sly & the Family Stone; Ohio Players; Marvin Gaye; Aretha Franklin; The Meters; Booker T. & the M.G.'s
I like plenty more music, but the list is already way too long, and I've already been leaving plenty out. So I'll just say I like a lot of world music genres (esp. Indian and Latin and African), but I admit I'm not that into a lot of contemporary, top 40 type, pop music.

Food: That's easy - just about anything vegan.

Yes I own a TV, and I'm not afraid to admit that I watch it. Some of my favorites are: The Rachel Maddow Show; Nova; Frontline; Limitless; Elementary; Twelve Monkeys; Mr. Robot; The Mentalist; The Simpsons, to name a few.
Six things I could never do without
1. Music/My Guitar
2. Friends
3. My sense of Humor
4. Clean socks
5. Vegan food
6. A good night's sleep
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Music, Politics, Science, Philosophy, The Human Condition, The Weather. I'm also a bit of a Geography buff.
On a typical Friday night I am
usually in, taking it easy, but sometimes I can be found out playing a gig or seeing a friend's band or some other music, or seeing a play at one of the many fine theatres around town, or maybe just hanging out at a friend's house, or perhaps sharing a meal (in or out) with someone I haven't seen in a while.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm the real Dread Pirate Roberts.
You should message me if
You have a sense of humor.
You like my sense of humor.
You have, or had, at least one animal buddy in your life.
You know the difference between there, they're and their (not to mention your and you're, or it's and its.).
You've been to a foreign country and want to go to another one in the future.
You're at least mostly vegetarian and/or you're okay with sharing a meal with a vegan.
You like music. (Who doesn't like music?)

Also, I'll mention that generally I like to meet in person sooner rather than later, if we seem to have a good connection after a few messages back and forth.
