My self-summary
Trying to learn a bit more each day. Figuring out how to live fully, so that I can help others find their way as well. If you have an answer to that, please pass it on!
What I’m doing with my life
Like most anyone, looking for balance between work, personal, and interpersonal activities.

I teach full-time at a community college. Mostly chemistry, hence the corny username. I love the work, it's extremely fulfilling to be able to make an impact on so many people.

I have lately been working on establishing better personal habits. Eating more healthily, exercising, and keeping things organized. Things that would have been great to have been doing earlier, but better late than never!

I feel that I am in a good spot in the first two, so the latter is my current focus. Looking for excuses to meet new people, and to spend more time with those I know.
I’m really good at
I feel like it would be more interesting to list things you are terrible at. I can not for the life of me park in a straight line, despite my best efforts. I have never been able to snap my fingers or whistle a tune which I fear is a pretty huge character flaw.

I guess I'm good at some things though:

Empathizing with other people. I enjoy finding out how people tick, and being able to put yourself in another's shoes removes a lot of unnecessary stress.

Playing the saxophone. I was in the marching band in high school! I'm sure you're jealous.

Logic puzzles (sudoku for example). It's fun coming up with new ways of solving them. For that matter, any sort of puzzle that requires you to figure out your own rules.
The first things people usually notice about me
Apparently I smile a lot without realizing it. My mind can wander and i amuse myself easily.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: Pretty much anything with a powerful melody, from classical to rock to electronic. Some favorites: Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, Dragonforce, Avenged Sevenfold, Ellie Goulding.

Books: For fiction, I prefer sci-fi/fantasy, for example Ender's Game, A Song of Ice and Fire, Anathem. I read a lot on nonfiction as well, from biographies to psychology; anything that looks interesting. I am always open to suggestions for interesting things to put on my reading list.

Movies: I am easily entertained; I can find even terrible movies enjoyable.

TV shows: Game of Thrones, Futurama, Scrubs, Always Sunny, Stranger Things, Black Mirror

Food: I'll eat almost anything that doesn't have mushrooms. I have my comfort foods (mostly pasta), but I try to try new things when I can.
Six things I could never do without
1) A sense of humor
2) Dark chocolate m&m's
3) Something to achieve
4) Shoe inserts for my flat feet
5) Air conditioning
6) A decent internet connection
7) The ability to break arbitrary rules
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Big idealistic impossible things, like how to fix everything wrong in the world, or what I'm having for lunch tomorrow.

On a serious note, I think a lot about how to improve the state of education. I'm a huge fan of The Khan Academy, and hope to make a difference in the system myself.
On a typical Friday night I am
With friends in some fashion, or just relaxing at home. I'm an introvert, don't really enjoy going to bars or other places with a lot of people. After a week of teaching and interacting with so many people, I'd rather relax on my own or with a few people I know.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Even though I know they are designed to appeal to the lowest denominator, I will sing along in the car to a catchy pop tune.
You should message me if
You would like to have a conversation, deep or shallow. I genuinely enjoy the discussions I've had on this site. It's great getting to know people with different life experiences, and I've learned a lot about myself as well.
